Starting Out:
Levels 1 - ~10 : Thanks to the new version 1.93, all friars start as friars. For the first ten levels or so, you will probably stay in the tutorial zone and do the quests there, but you can also hunt around Cotswald or Gothwaite Harbor, or the Roman Aquaducts in the catacombs. These levels will go very fast. For equipment, there are lots of quests in cotswald, the tutorial, and catacombs that will give you equipment appropriate for these levels. An initial spec of 4 staff for the Figure 8 style is recommended, with enhancements for the remainder. Rejuvenation can also be useful, although you automatically get cure poison and disease now and shouldn't need more then the first spec heal for some time. You can also go to the early battlegrounds and demon's breach at this time if you would like to. NOTE: Technically, you can stick to mace and shield configurations for a long time due to the friar pbae and group heal shouts and the new Heal over Time that you can cast in combat and still be able to solo monsters fine. I leveled up a friar (shown on the right at around level 35) this way until level 48 when the slow nature of this really began to be a liability. With champion and master level styles, a template that includes strength and certain types of weapons, this playstyle could succeed (and may even be viable in rvr for a healer type), but the cost is in time to solo mobs...(The Spec would be: 50 Enhance, 48 Rejuve, rest in parry btw) Levels 11-35 or so : Now that you are starting to look more like a friar, you can extend your hunting areas significantly. Camelot Hills, more of the Isle of Glass, and deeper into the catacombs you should walk. Though a bit monotonous, the task dungeons are also available and can be quick for friars. By now, you should have a general idea of what role you prefer to play as a friar, whether melee, healer, or a combination of the two. Once you reach at least 15 staff training, you can let it slide a little bit to raise up the important enhancements and rejuvenation spec lines. Enhancements should remain the main line until you at least have the 15% absorb buff at 34, or the spec dex/qui at 35. Try to keep staff and enhancements balanced with each other for best effect. Levels 35-45 : It is in these levels that the friar truly begins to shine. Melee friars should gain access to holy staff and the friar's boon/stunning wrath chain. Healing friars will get the more powerful heal over times, and with enhance, you will soon feel more and more like you are your own buffbot. If you have been keeping up on your epic quests, you will be able to get your epic armor at level 45. What is nice about this armor is that no matter how many times you repair it, it will never lose durability. For PvE, this armor works great, and I would recommend if you do a lot of PvE, that you design a template around it. I have put one of mine on the GearBunny site as an example of a decent pve template. I wore that suit for at least 3 months and it was very solid for most duties. By this point, you should have enough cash flow coming in to take up tailoring or fletching to higher levels for the ability to salvage equipment drops that you can't use or sell, and to get into the Darkness Falls seal/trinketing market.
